Princess and Prince are awaiting a new home. They have been with me since December 2010. The story of how they came to me is heartwarming.
I had been grieving the separation from my cat Principe, who still lives in Spain. When I returned from my journey in Spain in 2009, I came to live in my father's house in The Woodlands, where I wrote my spiritual memoir, "The Journey of the Jewel" about my wanderings, following inner guidance, and trusting that I would be provided for, for the three years at the southern tip of Spain and the Morrocan Sahara.
Upon publishing my work, around the same time, one of my favorite neighbors, was doing the final packing to move from his rental house. He had provided shelter and food for many feral cats. I approached him that day, "Walter, do you need help with anything?" "Yes, Anani, there is one problem left unsolved. Of all the cats there are two young ones, that I cannot bear to abandon to live completely on their own. Would you find a home for them?"
"Yes Walter! (inside my heart sang of victory) I will just go inform my father, and come back for them."
Father hadn't wanted any animals until this day. I used the technique of sitting on his left side, for the purpose of speaking into his left ear (the ear from which men are agreeable). "Yes," he agreed, "only, they are not in the house."
"Well, they will need to be in the untility room and the garage, during extreme temperatures, and to adjust to the change of residence," I insisted.
Princess warmed up to me immediately by leaning on my thighs with her forepaws for some scratching. Prince kept his distance.
So, that night I played my very own music cd for Prince: Principe Lullabye, which I had recorded in collaboration with Andrea Forest, a composer and producer. The following morning, Prince came to me, brushing up against me so insistently, there was nothing more to do than bend over to caress and cuddle him.
From that day onwards Prince and Princess have displayed immense amounts of affection.
Prince and Princess now need a new home, as I will be going for another journey across the ocean, and writing my next book. I will miss them dearly, yet I know that they will adjust very easily with the next caretaker who is full of sensitivity and gentleness.
Some statistics:
Prince and Princess turned one year of age in May 2011. They have had their shots and have been neutered and spayed. They are accustomed to being outside when it is cool at night, in summer, and will stay close to the house or the forest behind the house. They are accustomed to regular feeding times: At around eight in the morning, and nine in the evening. I will feed them indoors, so their food is fresh and the ants don't mess with it. They receive wet food (Evolve or Iams) both times, and dry food (Evolve) as a supplement. I chose Evolve because they claim to refrain from using corn, wheat or soy.
During the hot season, Prince and Princess sleep inside in the utililty room,or in my bedroom (I bring them in through my window! wink! wink!)
In the next post, you'll see a picture I recently captured of them sleeping together on the washer. A favorite cool spot.
